Most of our club sailing is in Bali lasers , optimist and catamarans and takes place from our Serangan club house in front of Agus bar & restaurant. Racing is programmed every second Sunday of the month. Those members who wish to sail during weekdays, are welcome from 9 to 12 am and from 1 pm to 5 pm, but are advised to bring some extra help to put the vessel into the water, as we have only 1 boatboy during weektimes. The prevailing wind from March until August is usually the South East trades which blow steadily from 5 to 15 knots. Lighter in the mornings and stronger mid afternoon. The prevailing wind changes to the north west monsoon from around September through till March. This is also the rainy season and conditions can be unsuitable for small boat sailing. AreaSailing of club dinghies is confined in the waters of Serangan bay which is bounded by Sanur on one side and Serangan on the other. A reef on the seaward side protects the area from waves and swell. It is quite open to the south east trades and North West monsoons which blow for much of the year making it an excellent location for yachting. There is a passage through the reef giving access to the Lombok Straights. This area is often subjected to large swells and extreme currents making it only suitable for navigation by larger boats although Catamarans sometimes choose to venture outside. |
